Hackensack, New Jersey [12] |
- Charles Mabie, retired contractor and a past president of the Maywood Board of Education, died last night in Hackensack Hospital less than four hours after he was stricken by an appendicitis attack in the Hackensack Elks Club. He was a charter member of Hackensack Lodge 658, B. P. O. Elks, and in spite of his 78 years, visited the club almost daily.
Mr Mabie complained of a sharp in his side at about 5 o'clock yesterday and Secretary Hugh V Keenan of the Elks Lodge summoned his physician, Dr Arthur W Greenfield, who recognized the symptoms as a renewal of an old ailment. An ambulance was ordered from the Hospital and Dr Greenfield accompanied Mabie to the Hospital. He died at 9:o5 P.M.
In addition to his service on the Maywood Board of Education and affiliation with Hackensack Elks, Mr Mabie was a veteran of the Spanish American War and an exempt fireman.
He is survived by his son, Kenneth Mabie, of 309 Union Street, Hackensack, with whom he made his home, and by a niece, Mrs Margaret Stern of Teaneck, and a sister-in-law, Mrs Ethel Mabie.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday from the Ricardo Funeral Home with burial to take place Monday at the New York Cemetery on Hudson Street.
