- Eli Mabie, 78, of North Webster, died of complications at 5:30 a.m. today in the Hillcrest Nursing Home, Columbia City. Mr. Mabie, who had been ill since Nov 9, was born in Kosciusko county on Jan 15, 1888, the son of John and Anna (Long) Mabie. In 1906 he was united in marriage to Fannie Snoke who preceded him in death in 1924. A retired farmer, Mr. Mabie was a member of the Mock Christian Church at North Webster where he had resided most of his lifetime. Survivors include four sons, Gerald Mabie, of Livonia, Eugene Mabie, of North Webster, Orvin Mabie, of Bristol, LaVon Mabie, of Columbia City; one brother and one sister, Ben Mabie and Mrs. Elizabeth Hart, both of North Webster; 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two daughters, one brother and one sister. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Harris-Troxel Funeral Home at North Webster. Rev. Chester Reed will officiate. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon Friday until the hour of the service

- Rhonda K. Mabie, 18, Demotte, Ind, a native of Elkhart, died Monday at her home. The cause of death remains under investigation. She was born May 25, 1971, in Elkhart. Surviving are her mother and step-father Natalie and Gordie Anderson, Demotte; her father, Allen Mabie, Orono, Maine; four brothers, Eric with the U.S. Army in Germany; Kurt, Orono; Gordie Anderson Jr., and Corey Anderson, both of Demotte; grandparents Lloyd and Ruth Barringer, Demotte, and Orvan and Jean Mabie, both of Bristol, and a great grandmother, Flora Barringer, Thompsonville, Ill. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Steinke Funeral Home, K.V. Chapel, Demotte-Wheatfield, where services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. David Sterk of First Reformed Church will officiate. Burial will be in Holland Cemetery. Miss Mabie was a 1989 graduate of Kankakee High School and a freshman at Illinois Wesleyan University, Bloomington, Ill. While in high school and college, she held several class offices and was a star basketball player

- Orvan Leroy Mabie, Sr., 76 died at 8:52 p.m. Sunday in Goshen General Hospital where he was admitted Friday. He had been ill since July after suffering a heart attack. He was born Sept. 21,1921, in North Webster, to Eli Earl and Fannie (Snoke) Mabie, and spent his lifetime in the Goshen area. On November 21st, 1945, in Syracuse, he married Jean M. Rummel.
He was a fireman at Goshen Rubber for 32 years, retiring in 1988. The he also farmed part time for 40 years. He was an Army veteran of World War two, serving in North Africa, Italy and France and Germany. He was a volunteer for United Labor Agency Harvest Basket and was a member of Zion Grange.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Diana (Mrs. Henry) Brubaker, Bristol; two sons, Allen, Bristol, and Orvan, Jr, Granger; seven grandchildren; a great grandchild; and three brothers, Gerald and Eugene, both of North Webster, and Lavon, Columbia City. A sister,. Gladys, died in 1928…. Memorials may be directed to United Labor Agency Harvest Basket." There was no service.
