- Ellis Mabee Dies in 49th Year A well known and highly esteemed native of Ingersoll in the person of Ellis Mabee of 542 Randolph Street, Windsor, passed away at Westminster Hospital, London, on Friday, January 9th, following an illness of long duration and seriously ill for the past 2 months. Born in Ingersoll, a son of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Mabee, Harris Street. Ellis was in his 49th year and attended both public and high school here. He was employed in the Royal Bank in Ingersoll, Toronto, and Owen Sound, returning here in 1938 where he resided for 1 year. Later he went to Windsor where he was employed by the Borden Co. In 1942 he joined the Canadian Army and saw service in England. In 1946 he returned to Windsor where for a short time he was again in the employ of the Borden Company for a short time. After working in the unemployment insurance office in Windsor he transferred to the immigration department in 1949 where he was employed as inspector until the time of his death. His wife, the former Audrey Riddle, predeceased him 1 month ago. Left to mourn his passing is a young son, Douglas, of Windsor; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Mabee, Ingersoll; two brothers, Roger and Alvan, Detroit; two sisters, Miss Hattie Mabee, Medicine Hat, Alberta; and Mrs. George [Irene] McMurray of Windsor, and one nephew, Eugene Mabee, of Ingersoll. The funeral was held on Monday afternoon from the McBeath Funeral Home, 246 Thames St. S., with service conducted at 3 o'clock by Rev. J. R. Simpson, pastor of the Ingersoll Baptist Church. The service was largely attended by relatives and friends, and there was also a large representation from the Department of Immigration from Windsor, Hamilton and Toronto. The profusion of beautiful floral offerings bore silent tribute to the esteem in which Mr. Mabee was held. Casket bearers who also acted as flower bearers were K. W. Smith, J. Whitlock, C. Elliott, G. A. Ross, C. Moulton, W. Snyder, and inspectors with the Department of Immigration, Windsor. Temporary entombment made in the Ingersoll Mausoleum. On Sunday afternoon the Canadian Legion Memorial Service was held at the funeral home at 8 o'clock conducted by the president, Charles Johnston and padre, Rev. J. R. Simpson. There was a large attendance of members of Branch 119.
