- Charles Kent Mabie Dec. 21, 1933 - Nov. 29, 2010 Resident of Newark "Chuck" journeyed off to the Golden Hills peacefully on the morning of November 29, 2010 surrounded by his family after a brave battle with chronic health issues. Born in San Mateo to the late Dorothy and Carl Mabie, he spent his childhood in Redwood City, where he developed a love for nature, science, history, and outdoor activity. Upon graduation from San Jose State University, he served as a medic in the US Army, 10th Infantry Division, in Bamberg, Germany, where he met and married the love of his life, Anneliese. After his discharge, they returned to the San Francisco Bay Area, where he taught science for 35 years at Borel Middle School in San Mateo and Bowditch Middle School in Foster City. Chuck had numerous and diverse interests during his lifetime, which he shared with his children, grandchildren, students, and friends. He enjoyed traveling, hunting and fishing, oil painting, research history, camping, and historical armaments. Chuck liked to gather with his fellow school retirees for luncheons, and was also an active participant in both E. Clampus Vitus, Yerba Buena 1, and the Alfred Pleasonton Camp 24, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. He was a devoted husband, father, mentor, and friend, and was unapologetic about his patriotism and belief in duty to family and country. Chuck is survived by his wife, Anneliese; daughter, Doris (Ed) Gonzalez; son, Charlie (Kathy), and five grandsons, Nick, Alex, Ben, Joe, and Mark. He is also survived by his brother, Richard Mabie, and sister, Susan Ransford. He will be dearly missed by all whom he touched, especially his family. His family would like to extend special thanks to all the staff of Kaiser Fremont for their ongoing care for Chuck during his long battle. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at 12:30 p.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, located at 38451 Fremont Blvd., Fremont, CA 94536. A reception and time for remembrance will follow
