- On the front page of the Orange County Independent of Middletown, NY, dated Thursday, March 28, 1929 was the report that William Mabee, a painter of Middleton, was sentenced by Judge Wiggans to four months in county jail, for failure to support wife and five children.
In consequence of this abandonment his children were placed in county custody.
The Orange County Board of Supervisors approved the payment for care to the Brooklyn Home for Children for the following Middletown Children: for the years indicated

- Helen R Mabee, 75, of Crestwood Village, Whiting, Manchester Township, died yesterday at Community Medical Center, Toms River. She was a member of Crestwood Village Residents Club, and Community Reformed Church, Whiting. Mrs Mabee was born in New York and lived in Winfield Park before moving to Crestwood Village in 1980.
Surviving her are her husband of 56 years, Leland W Mabee, Sr; two sons Leland A Jr, North Hampton, England, and Richard C, Cranford; a brother Stanley Widuch, South Carolina; two sisters, Irena Piencak, Clolnia, Woodbridge Township, and Stephanie Kowalski, New Hampton, NY.
