Mr. Bentley “Ben” William Mabee, 87, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center. He was born April 27, 1939 in Albany, NY, the only child of the late Donald Kimball and Genevieve Bentley Bliss Mabee, for whom he was named and he was very proud of the lineage of the name.
Ben joined the US Navy out of high school where he served his country honorably. He then went to Alfred State College where he would meet his wife to be. Ben was a merchandise manager in retail, retiring from Matthews Belk. He never met a stranger and could easily strike up a conversation. He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed cheering on the Carolina Tarheels and Atlanta Braves. Ben was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Gastonia. He was also a 40 year volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America, delivered Meals on Wheels for over 20 years, and was a proud member of the American Legion.
Ben is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Carol Kavanaugh Mabee; daughter and son-in-law, Michele Mabee Allred and Mark of Charlotte, NC; son and daughter-in-law, Eric Kimball and Anne Davis Mabee of Cary, NC; grandchildren, Madison Allred Chung and husband Alex; Logan Bentley Allred; Genevieve Elizabeth Mabee.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Arnette Mabee.
