Dale Howard Mabee was born in May, 1926, to Louis Lee and Julia Etta (Bennett) Mabee. He grew up in and on farms near the town of Alexandria, South Dakota. In his late teens he moved to Oregon, where he held a variety of jobs before enlisting in the Navy a few days before his 18th birthday.
After World War II, Dale returned to South Dakota, where he enrolled in an accounting course at a business college and met Lillian Roduner on a blind date. Dale and Lillian were married on August 27, 1949, and moved to Sioux Falls, SD, where their two daughters were later born.
Dale held a variety of accounting-related jobs early in his career. He rose to a position as Controller of Du-Al Manufacturing Company, responsible for the financial, IT, and human resources functions of the company. He retired in 1984, and after some years as snowbirds, he and Lillian permanently relocated to Sun City, AZ, in 2003. Lillian passed away there in 2016.
Dale enjoyed golf, woodworking, fishing, genealogy research, and keeping in touch with his many friends and relatives. He belonged to the Masons, the Shrine, and High 12, becoming the Master of his Masonic Lodge in Sioux Falls. He was also active in his church, serving as a trustee and a long-time usher at the First Presbyterian Church in Sioux Falls, and later joining the First Presbyterian Church of Sun City, where he belonged to the Men’s Breakfast Group.
Dale died peacefully at home on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at the age of 98. He is survived by his daughters, Beth and Sue, both of Sun City, AZ.
