Witness-Obituary |

Noble County, Indiana [10] |
- Calista (Wilkinson) Maybee died Aug. 30; was buried Sept. 1 at Lake View. The following was written by herself to be read after her decease: I was born Feb. 3, 1841 in North Coshocton, Steuben County, N.Y.; married Alonza B. Stetson of Naples, Ontario County, N.Y., 1859. Husband started soon after to Henry County, Ill. to get a home prepared while I got ready to keep house, and one year later in 1869 joined him there, where in less than 2 years we were again separated by the cruel war. He enlisted in Aug. 1862, leaving home Sept. 15, never to return, being killed instantly by a shell near Knoxville, Tenn., leaving an infant buried in Ill. I went to Lawton, Mich., a widow with a young daughter, May, who was afterwards the wife of O. L. Hill, to live with my parents, and lived there a few years. Married George Maybee of LaGrange in 1868, having lived in northern Michigan 8 years. Returned to Kendallville in March 1891. Buried daughter May by first husband in May 1893. Had 4 children by last husband. Buried 2 sons, one eight months and one nine years old. (Two daughters survive.) Having written this Aug. 20, 1902, I joined the Wesleyan Methodist Church when 15 years old.
