- Florence A. Mabey, age 95, passed away on Monday, February 4, 2013 at Williamstown Commons, where she resided for the last two years. Born in Stamford, Conn. on November 27, 1917, she was daughter of the late Martin and Elsie Eisner Jensen. Florence graduated from Bellevue Hospital School of Nursing in New York City. She married and her first son was born. She later married Newman H. Mabey and two more sons were born into the family. Florence dedicated the remainder of her life to home and motherhood. The family lived in South Bethlehem, N.Y. for over 40 years. In 2000, Florence and Newman moved to Michigan to be near family. After her husband passed away in 2002, Florence moved to Williamstown to live with her son and daughter-in-law, Gregg and Debbie. Florence was a member of the Red Hat Society, and enjoyed visiting Saratoga. She was an accomplished knitter and enjoyed knitting baby caps for the newborns in the local hospitals. Florence A. Florence is survived by her three sons, Joseph (Debbie) Jensen, John (Christine) Mabey and Gregg (Debbie) Mabey; siblings, Ruth Larson and Martin "Bobby" Jensen; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. The funeral will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorial donations to Smile Train or the American Cancer Society will be appreciated.
