- Evelyne Mabie Winans, 91, of Sarasota, died peacefully on Jan. 26, 2012.
She was born Dec. 6, 1920 in New York City, grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y., and came to Florida in 1970 after living in Burlington, Vt., San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Washington, DC.
She attended Pratt Institute and Pace College in NYC. She was a long-time member of the Fine Arts Society of Sarasota and the Caledonian Club. She loved to travel, entertain, and to play golf and bridge. Evelyne loved life and treasured her time with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of nearly 50 years, Willard W. (Bill).
Family honoring her passage include her daughter Elizabeth Kellett and husband Robert of Sarasota, son Willard Jr. and wife Sandy of Hilton Head Island, S.C., grandchildren Charlotte Jenkins, Christine Kellett, Kimberly Kellett, Ross Winans, and Nicole Winans.
Her family wants to thank all who showed her love and support, in particular the staff of Pines of Sarasota where she spent her last months. We will be forever grateful for the wonderful care and compassion she found there.
Memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity or one of Evelyne's, which include the Humane Society and Habitat for Humanity.
Services will be private. National Cremation & Burial Society is handling arrangements.
