- Marion Mabey, 81, died Thursday, October 30, 1997 at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, November 3 at 2 p.m. at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls with Father Bob LaPlante presiding. Carol Amundson was the organist, and Judy Melby was the soloist. Casketbearers were Virgil Burger, John Schmitz, Pat Klemisch, Billy Groslie, Donald Engelstad and Arnold Narverud. Burial was at St. Bernard's Cemetery. The Green Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Marion Holzknecht was born February 28, 1916 in Thief River Falls to Hubert and Clara (Griebstein) Holzknecht. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. Marion attended school in Thief River Falls and graduated from Lincoln High School. She worked for many years at Lincoln High School for Athletic Director Ralph Skay, and when he retired, Marion worked in the principal's office. She retired in 1982 after 25 years. In 1940 Marion was united in marriage to Richard G. Mabey. Richard died in 1970.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, traveling and reading. She led the congregation in singing at St. Bernard's Catholic Church.
Marion is survived by one son, Jay Mabey of Newington, CT; one daughter-in-law, Renee Mabey and granddaughter, Janna Lee Mabey, both of East Grand Forks; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard; parents; two sisters, Frances and Esther; and two brothers, Norb Holznecht and Maurice Holznecht.
