- Rev. Dr. Elizabeth J. Walton, 70, of Farm Lane, Seabrook, died Tuesday, May 20, 2003, in Portsmouth Regional Hospital. She was born Jan. 30, 1933, in Newport, Vt., the daughter of the late Rev. Howard and Margaret (Mabie) Walton. She resided in Lisbon for seven years and moved to Attleboro, Mass., in 1941. She attended Joseph Finberg Elementary School and was a 1951 graduate of Attleboro High School. She received her bachelor's degree in theology from the New England School of Theology, Brookline, Mass., in 1957. She received her master's degree in theology in 1972 and her doctorate of theology in 1976 from Clarkville Seminary, Clarkville, Tenn. Rev. Dr. Walton was ordained to the ministry by the New Hampshire Advent Christian Conference in 1958 in Advent Christian Church, Seabrook, where her grandfather, the Rev. Arthur E. Walton was ordained in 1903.
A third generation of ordained ministers, she was serving as pastor of Four Corners Advent Christian Church in Seabrook and had previously served the church as pastor from 1957 until 1970. She was pastor of First Parish Community Church in West Newbury, Mass., from 1970 until 1981 and hosted a radio program during the 1970s known as "Moments of Meditation" from WNBP in Newburyport, Mass. Since 1982, Rev. Walton has been active with Rand Memorial Church, Seabrook, serving as music minister and organist, interim pastor and was a former deaconess. Over the years she has officiated at many funerals, weddings and has served Seabrook residents in many ways.
She was an accomplished poet and wrote and published several books of poetry and the biography of her grandparents. She had a love for music and was an accomplished organist and pianist. She began playing in Hebron Methodist Church in Attleboro as an organist at age 15 and continued until entering college in 1953. She was an avid student of British, Canadian and U.S. history. She is survived by many cousins. Calling hours will be held Friday from 3 to 5 p.m., and 7 to 9 p.m., at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. in Rand Memorial Church, South Main St., Seabrook. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Seabrook.
