Anecdote |
- Le Roy and Stella were married in Monsey, where they had their only child. Both father and son were known as "Roy". He managed a grocery store in Ramapo. When Roy was three (1933), they moved to 100 Delphi St., Brooklyn, NY. Le Roy was a clerk at Dates and Dyer. He logged the ticker tapes in "the cage", delivering certificates when stocks traded. When he lost his job on Wall Street around 1939/1940, he got a job at Avon and they moved to Suffern. Most of the people in town worked for Avon. He was known for his various "careers". He lent money, stocked at A&P and he was a beer salesman. He worked for Mr. Greenstein in Ramapo at Valley Distributers, where he organized a union, whereupon Mr. Greenstein fired them all. Then he went to work for Suffern National bank. He was in charge of all of their supplies and got his own office in New City. When he worked at Avon he brought orders to Rockefeller Plaza, the company headquarters, in his station wagon. He lost his job when soldiers returned from WWII. He and Stella retired to Florida

Anecdote |
- Maude and Arther Fredricks may have married just to give their child a name, although the child, LeRoy, went by the surname of "Conklin" after the age of two. LeRoy did not know Arthur Fredericks and probably did not even know that Lewis Conklin was not his biological father. His name was commonly accepted as "LeRoy Godfrey Conklin". The Methodist Church records in Sloatsburg list his name as LeRoy Godfred Fredericks and on his s.s. application, he listed his name as LeRoy Godford Conklin. Note that LeRoy was six months old when Maud married Arthur Fredericks In 1906, LeRoy was baptized with the surname "Fredericks". I suspect that LeRoy himself did not know this. I don't know if there was a legal adoption, but LeRoy was definitely raised as the son of Lewis/Louis Conklin. Although, on the 1910 census, Lewis did indicate that LeRoy was his step-son
