  	St. Clair, April 11 - Joseph J. Stommel, 79, retired Diamond Crystal Salt Co., worker, died early today in St. Clair after a long illness. Mr. Stommel was born March 4, 1876 in St. Clair Township. He and Gertrude Weidenbach were married June 8, 1904. Mr. Stommel was an employee of Diamond Crystal Salt co. 27 years until his retirement in 1941. Mrs. Stommel died March 10, 1940. He is survived by a son, Kenneth J. Stommel, St. Clair, a lawyer practicing in Port Huron; a daughter, Mrs. Jewel Maybee, Ann Arbor; nine grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Ern Bowan, Pontiac, and Mrs. Charles Gray, Richmond; several nieces and nephews. Remains are in the L. C. Friederich funeral home. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mary's Catholic church. Rev. Edmund Battersby, assistant pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Rosary devotions will be held 8 p.m. today in the funeral home for the Rosary Society and women of the parish and at 8 p.m. Tuesday for Knights of Columbus and the Holy Name Society
