- William F. Mabey, 75, of 17 Glenwood Ave. [Orange], a retired truck driver, died Wednesday in Quabbin Valley Healthcare in Athol. He leaves his former wife, Mary A. (Desreuisseau) Mabey of Springfield; two sons, Robert W. Mabey of Agawam and Leon A. Mabey of Athol; a brother, Charles Mabey of Yuma, Ariz.; two sisters, Sylvia Hebert of West Hatfield and Viola Sanger of Athol; four grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Warren, R.I., the son of Leon A. and Rose Ann (Gauthier) Mabey, and lived in Chicopee and West Springfield before moving here 20 years ago.
He was an Army veteran of World War II serving with the 826th Aviation Engineer Battalion in Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland and Central Europe.
Mr. Mabey was a truck driver for several freight companies in the Springfield and Athol areas, retiring in 1986.
He was a member of the Orange American Legion Post No. 172, and the Last Man's Club. He was also a member of the Roy L. Boyce Post No. 650, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Athol and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 404.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow in Fiske Funeral Home, 1356 Main St., Athol. Burial will be in Hillcrest Park Cemetery, Springfield. A calling hour is 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. tomorrow in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 7 Oak Street, Worcester 01609.
