  	Springfield Man Killed; Widow Admits Shooting in The Decatur Daily Review (Decatur, Illinois), 27 Jul 1953, Mon, Page 10; from Springfield, July 26 (AP) "A tavern owner, Jonas Mabie, 52, was shot and killed tonight, and police said the dead man's widow, Jane, 34, admitted the shooting. States's Attorney General George Coutrakon of Sangamon County said no charges have been placed against Mrs Mabie. Coutrakon said Mrs Mabie related that Jonas came home intoxicated and began abusing her. She went to a bureau, got a .32 caliber revolver, and shot once, Coutrakon said. Police said Mrs Mabie complained to them previously about Mabie's ill-treatment of her." however: in the Daily Republican-Register (Mount Carmel, Illinois), 12 Sep 1953, Sat, Page 1 "Mrs June Mabie, Springfield indicted for murder of husband.... Dead man's brother witnessed the incident and said Mabie did not threaten to attack Mrs Mabie.
