- Dorothy Miller Friedley, 88, formerly of Sussex, died in Leesburg, Va., after a long illness on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mrs. Friedley grew up in Middle Village, N.Y. After graduating from Grover Cleveland High School, she worked at the Home Insurance Company in New York City. She married the Rev. Charles R. Friedley in 1938 and moved with him to Delhi, N.Y., where he became pastor of the First Baptist Church. Subsequent pastorates included the First Baptist Church in Susquehanna, Pa., Cannonsville Baptist Church in Cannonsville, N.Y., and the First Baptist Church in Sussex, where the couple served from 1958 until Rev. Friedley's retirement in 1975. She was predeceased in death by her husband, Ray, in 1995.
She is survived by a sister, Mildred Negris, of Downer's Grove, Ill.; three daughters, Kathie, of Lincoln, Va., Virginia Weinstock, of Potomac, Md. and Carol Griffith, of Washington, D.C., and her grandchildren, Sara and Andrea Weinstock and Jacob Endres.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Sussex. Interment will immediately follow at Deckertown-Union Cemetery, Wantage. Arrangements are under the direction of Pinkel Funeral Home, 31 Bank Street (Route 23) Sussex. Friends may pay their respects on Friday from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at the church.
