- Charles Earl Putnam, 89, of Lapeer, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004.
He was born Nov. 25, 1914, in Davison, to Earl and Alma (Blackmore) Putnam.
He worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps during World War II, helping to build many roads and bridges. He retired in 1976 from the Lapeer County Road Commission. He and his first wife, Mary, attended Grace Episcopal Church in Lapeer for many years. He belonged to the Canada Creek Ranch in Atlanta. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and to travel.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie Draper Putnam of Lapeer; sons, Charles (Barbara) Putnam of Lapeer, William (Blanche) Putnam of Port Richey, Fla.; step-children, Norman (Yeong) Draper of Richardson, Texas, Richard (Brenda) Draper of Roseville and LuAnne Hasler of Tawas City; grandchildren, Gay (Joe) Byrd of Flint; Karl (Jennifer) Putnam of Lapeer, Tracy (Chris) Byrd of Las Vegas, Nev., Ann Putnam of Las Vegas, Nev., Todd (Michele) Putnam of Tucson, Ariz., Rodney Putnam of Las Vegas, Nev.,and Crystol Putnam of Davison; 14 great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary (Mabee) Putnam; parents, Earl and Alma Putnam; and brothers, Earl Putnam, and Minor Putnam.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, Suncrest Auxiliary or the American Cancer Society.
Memorial services were Sunday (Sept. 26) at Lapeer County Medical Care Facility's Outdoor Pavilion on Suncrest Drive. The Rev. Burt Davis officiated.
