- He was born June 17, 1936, to Francis Thayer and Eva Wagner in Beloit, Wis. He graduated from Beloit Memorial High School. He was stationed at Camp Pendleton, Calif., from 1954 to 1956 with the U.S. Marines. He married Donna Jean Hawkins on July 23, 1966, in Beloit.
They moved from Wisconsin to Pinewood Springs in 1975. In 1987, he moved back to Beloit, retiring to Loveland in 2003. He was a salesman for the Regal-Beloit Corp. selling gear drives and electric motors. He worked for 35 years in Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, New Mexico and Wyoming.
He was a member of the Marine Corps League in Wisconsin and Loveland. He also was a member of the Longmont Moose Club.
He enjoyed motorcycles, snowmobiles, traveling, horseshoe tournaments, fishing, boating and ATVs. He loved his family and especially enjoyed playing with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Jean Thayer of Loveland; sons, Jeffrey Thayer of Beloit, Rodney and wife Shelly Thayer of Fremont, Neb., Kerwyn and wife Giselle Mabie of Lake Isabella, Calif., and Tyron and wife Heather Mabie of Denver; daughters, Christine Thayer and Mark Nelson of Rhinelander, Wis., and Kim and husband Scott Miller of Estes Park; brothers, Richard Thayer of Janesville, Wis., and Roland Thayer of Beloit; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister. Lola Pate.
Viewing will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, with a memorial service to follow at 11 a.m. at Pinewood Springs Community Church
