- George Saunders Mabee, 92, of Dennis, passed away on March 10, 2017. George was the dear son of the late Vern and Dorothy (Dyer) Mabee and the devoted husband of Barbara Jane (Cliff), (Edson) Mabee.
George grew up in and around the town of Quincy, at 17 he joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served during WWII. After his discharge from the Navy, he began his career as an auto mechanic, later he became a sheet metal inspector in Dorchester. George was known as an all-around fix-it man.

He especially loved to teach children how to fish; and was an avid striped bass fisherman. George was a proud charter boat Captain well into his 80's, but when he began his boat charter 30 plus years ago, his wife Barbara took on the role of first mate for many trips and even traveled with him through the intercostal waterways and would share vacation island hopping with him from Elizabeth Islands to Martha's Vineyard and everywhere in between.
George and Barbara loved their cross country drives, after being together for 10 years, they got married crossing the country. Beyond his life at sea, Capt. George was a part of a bowling league and was an avid golfer as well; he is one of few people who received the Spaulding Hole-in-One award at the Strawberry Valley Golf Course. George was a regular member of the Dennis Union Church, always available to help a friend or neighbor in need.
Besides his beloved wife, Barbara of 33 years; George leaves behind his children: Michael Mabee (Emily) of KY, Tom Mabee (Karin) of IA, Dorothy Stringer (Garry) of MO, and his step-children: Kathy Gallian (Robert) of E. Bridgewater, Karla Machinski (Robert) of W.
