- Charles L. Youmans, 82, of Flat Creek Road, died Tuesday, May 11, 1999, at the Bassett Hospital in Cobleskill, following a long illness.
Mr. Youmans was born April 6, 1917, on Fultonham, the son of Charles and Helen (Gridley) Youmans.
Mr. Youmans was employed as a security guard for the New York State Power Authority in Gilboa for several years before retiring.
In his early years, Mr. Youmans was manager of the former WGY Grocery Store in Middleburgh and then the Oneida Market for many years.
Mr. Youmans then joined the United States Army serving from 1942 to 1946. He was discharged as a technician, 5th Class. After the war, Mr. Youmans was the owner of the former Oucangena View Tourist Home on River Street in Middleburgh. Later, he managed the Sunoco Station (now Ryan's) on Main Street, Middleburgh.
Mr. Youmans was a past president of the Middleburgh Rotary Club, as well as a free and accepted mason.
Mr. Youmans spent many winters at his home in Stuart, Fla. In the summertime, he enjoyed his hobby of antiques and collectibles.
Mr. Youmans was predeceased by his first wife, Alta (Mabie) Youmans; his second wife, Marion (Wally) Youmans; his only daughter, Donna Youmans; two brothers, James and John Otto Youmans; and a sister, Elizabeth Y. Frisbie Pulver.
Mr. Youmans is survived by one sister, Laura (Youmans) Brandow of Altamont; his beloved and devoted fiancee, Maude Haskin of Broome Center; two nieces, Helen Brandow Coughtry and Sybil Youmans Reisch; two nephews, William H. Brandow Jr. and John Kendell Youmams; two stepdaughters, Janette Brown Reynolds and Donna Carpinelli; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 14, 1999, at the Palmer & Shaylor Inc., Funeral Home, 63 River St., Middleburgh, with the Rev. Paul Ferenczy, of the Middleburgh Reformed Church, officiating. Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Middleburgh Cemetery
