Witness-Obituary |
- WALTHAM, ILL-Stricken while visiting at the George H. Piercy farm in Waltham township, William Van De Warker, 62, of Ottawa, for many years a resident of Peru and La Salle, died suddenly about 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon.
A verdict of death due to apoplexy was returned by a coroner's jury Wednesday evening at the Gladfelter funeral chapel, Ottawa.
Mr. Van De Warker, a brother of Mrs. Olive Behrens, La Salle, and Mrs. Winifred Witt, Peru, had been a dinner guest at the Piercy farm home eight miles north of Utica at noon Wednesday. He was accompanied to the farm by his wife.
After the meal, Mr. Van De Warker accompanied Mr. Piercy and his sons, George and Myles, as they drove a wagon into a field to load hay, it was said. Mr. Van De Warker returned to the farm residence.
A telephone call had meanwhile been made to summon a Utica physician but upon the latter's arrival, Mr. Van De Warker was pronounced dead.
Mr. Van De Warker was born in Lockport, Ill., on May 2, 1876. As a young man, he came to the La Salle-Peru community, residing in the latter city for the greater part of the time until he moved to Ottawa about 25 years ago. While residing in Peru, he was employed as a switchman for the Rock Island railroad and in Ottawa, was employed in a similar capacity until his retirement on pension just two months ago.
Surviving are the widow, two step-sons, Harry and Leo, and four daughters, Margaret, a student nurse at Ryburn-King hospital, Ottawa, Irene, a student at Illinois Normal University, Normal, Betty and Patricia, at home. One brother, Victor, of Chicago, and three sisters, Mrs. Olive Behrens, La Salle, Mrs. Estella Shinske, of Savanna, Ill., and Mrs. Winifired Witt, Peru, also survive.
Funeral services are to be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the family home. 1513 Columbus Street, Ottawa. Burial will be made in an Ottawa cemetery.
