Sharon Mabee Ward, age 76, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2025.
Sharon was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on December 11, 1948 to Lawrence and Margaret Mabee. Raised on the east side of Indianapolis, she attended Our Lady of Lourdes (grades 1-8) followed by T.C. Howe (9-12). Sharon was a master in the kitchen. Upon graduating high school, she began her career in cooking at Harold's Steer-In and ended it at Community Hospital, over 50 years later.
During her life when visiting friends, doctors, and church members, and at holidays and special occasions, she always brought something homemade from her kitchen. It was filled with love and for people to enjoy. Most notably, she is famous for her banana bread, peanut butter balls, Martha Wolf's chocolate cake, and the family's 100 year old Irish white cake recipe.
Beyond baking she was an entrepreneur. At 40, she started The Magic Touch, a residential cleaning business. It was far from just a cleaning business. When working with her, she sat and listened about your life, she shared food and meals with clients, who often were elderly and appreciated the conversation, and at the end, in addition to a clean house, she left a special note and some candy just to make people's day.
Sharon's kindness and compassion was evident in her actions: the countless times she took friends and family members to doctor appointments, brought food and desserts when needed or most likely just because she felt like it, helping care for Kathy, her sister, when she was in the nursing home as well as providing jobs to numerous family members and friends.
Sharon was a long-time active member of the Tri Chi Sorority and one of her favorite activities was hosting her annual St. Patrick's Day luncheon. The ladies in our family attended their annual Mother Daughter banquet where we enjoyed spending the afternoon together sharing good food and catching up on life.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents Lawrence and Margaret Mabee, her uncle Mark Mack, her sisters Mary Mabee Lanum Bunn and Kathy Mabee and nephew Douglas Mabee. Sharon is survived by her sister Nancy Meyer-Brown and her children (Pat Meyer, Katie Lory and Maureen Meyer). Her brother Joe and Linda Mabee and their children (Matt Mabee, Chris Mabee, Amanda Mabee and Colleen Locke). Her nephew Michael Lanum and niece Carolyn Shaw and many great nieces and nephews.
