- Duane Charles Maybay passed away peacefully on April 17, 2013 in Granbury, Texas.
Duane was born October 5, 1922 in Gowrie, Iowa to John Hildebert Lungren and Florabelle Hibbard Lungren. After his mother passed away he was raised by William and Maud Maybay.
Duane joined the Army Air Corps in 1943. He was pilot and copilot of a B-24 and flew 35 missions with a total of 273 combat hours. He was awarded the Air-Medal with 3 clusters, the Presidential Unit Citation and the European theater medal with 9 battle stars.
After the war he completed his degree in Journalism from the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
He married Mary Trible Parrish in 1947.
Duane worked in an executive capacity for Gates Rubber Co., Minute Maid, Nalley, XLNT food, Van de Kamp and Knudsen. He also started 2 businesses, Mountain High Foods and Resource Recovery Systems. In later life he discovered how much he enjoyed the internet, garage sales and E-bay.
He moved from Irvine, California to Granbury, Texas in 2007. He was a resident of Granbury Villas where he received excellent care.
He is survived by his daughters Tina Biggs of Tazewell, Va and Karen Woodward of Granbury,Tx and their husbands, Jim Biggs and Tom Woodward. He is survived by 5 grandchildren, Adam Biggs and wife Gina, James Biggs Jr., Sara, Samantha and Skylar Woodward, and 1 great grandchild, Lucinda Biggs, and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at DFW National Cemetery on Monday, May 13 at 10:30 in the morning.
