Jeff was born in Nyack, N.Y., on July 11, 1945, to Warren and Helen Mabie. He lived in various places throughout his life including New York, Florida and Wisconsin, but always considered Alaska his home. He originally moved to Alaska because he was stationed at Eielson Air Force Base. While serving in the Air Force, he met his lifelong friend Bob Rayner and had years of unforgettable adventures.
He chose to stay in Alaska after his service and lived here for the past 46 years.
He attended the University of Wisconsin River Falls and the University of Alaska Fairbanks. He graduated with numerous degrees and worked for the last 30-plus years as a chemist at Golden Heart Utilities.
Jeff met his wife, Patti, at the work Christmas party in 1986. They married in December 1987 and began their life together. Jeff's passion was the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He loved to go to their cabin on the Goodpaster River, fish in Valdez, Chitina, Paxson Lake, and other streams and rivers. He looked forward to floating the Gulkana River every summer with his son, nephew Bill, and friends. One of his other favorite things to do was traveling to Hawaii with their friends, Bill and Michelle Bunch, and family and going scuba diving. His other passion was buying, selling, collecting and repairing guns. He loved attending gun shows for many years with his friend, Bob Rayner.
He was involved with youth sports, coaching his kids in hockey and softball. He coached the North Pole High School girls softball team for four years and numerous hockey teams as his kids were growing up.
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Peggy. Jeff will be remembered as a caring and loving, husband, father, grandfather and friend.
