- Richard Lee Gonser Sr. On Friday, April 20, 2012, at the age of 76, Dick Gonser passed away due to lung cancer, in his home in Glendora, surrounded by his loving family. Dick was born on September 15, 1935 in Yakima, Washington.
In his early years, Dick was a proud member of the United States Navy. During his time in the Navy he was stationed at Point Mugu where he met the love of his life Maryann. They were married in 1954 and spent nearly 58 wonderful years together.
After the Navy, Dick followed his passion for firearms and became a trained gunsmith. Along with his friend, they co-founded Skeetmaster, a shotgun customizing business, which he ran until retirement. He met this friend while working for the Los Angeles County Department of Weights and Measures as a code enforcer and supervisor. He retired from the county after 26 years.
Of Dick's many interests, he greatly enjoyed sports and coached kids in both baseball and football. He was the founder of the Junior All American Football League in Monrovia, California during the late 1960's. Following his retirement, he became an avid golfer and enjoyed woodworking. He could be seen in his garage almost daily working on different wood projects when he wasn't on the golf course.
His wife, Maryann, and his four children survive Dick, Richard Gonser, Jr, of Chino Hills, Kerry Van Frank of La Verne, Darren Gonser of Glendora, and Kathie Spaun of Glendora. He also has 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
He had great faith in God and was a member of Glenkirk Presbyterian Church where memorial services will be held on Sunday April 29, 2012 at 3:00pm
