- Died at his home, west side of the lake [Silver Lake], at 10 a. m., Sunday, Capt Elias Tallman. He has been ill a long time, but death came sudden from heart disease. He was born in Delaware county in 1815 and came to Castile in 1816, was married in 1839 to Miss Cynthia Matteson, who survives him. He has four children. When 16 years of age he was at Buffalo with his regiment during the so called Patriot War. His father served in the war of 1812. Deceased was a gentleman much esteemed by all who knew him and his funeral was largely attended. His wife is a terrible sufferer from cancer and on Saturday Drs. Lusk, Crichton and Randall performed an operation for its removal and she lies in a serious condition. The family has the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in their affliction.

- We are sorry this week to chronicle the death,of Cynthia, wife of the Capt. Elias Tallman, who died at 4 a.m. on Sunday morning, only surviving the death of her husband by a few short days. Deceased was born in Vermont and removed to Castile in 1822. She was a lady who was universally esteemed by friends and neighbors. The funeral took place on Monday at the 1st Baptist church, Rev. J. Sullivan officiating and the services were largely attended.
