  	Walter E. Lynch, 78, longtime U.S. Post Office employee, died Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Baystate Medical Center. He resided at 393 Springside Avenue in Pittsfield for many years. Born in Mineola, Long Island, New York on September 18, 1932, he was the son of the late Walter and Marie Maybee Lynch. Walt was a resident of Pittsfield most of his life and a 1952 graduate of St. Joseph's High School. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1993 after thirty-four years of service. Walter was an avid golfer and a member of the Berkshire Hills Country Club for forty years. He excelled in golfing, winning many golf tournaments. He loved bowling and was inducted into the Massachusetts Hall of Fame Bowling Association. He was a Navy veteran, serving in the Korean War. He was an avid Red Sox fan and a communicant of the former St. Mary's Church. He took great pride in his job and was well known for helping others in need. He leaves his wife, the former Florice Callanan, whom he married on June 8. 1957. He also leaves a son, Kevin P. Lynch of Pittsfield. Private funeral services and burial will be at a later date.
