- Elkhart - Mrs Gladys Pettit, 52, of 1002 Chicago Ave, died Tuesday in Elkhart General Hospital, where she had been a patient for the past month. She was born March 24, 1916 in Warsaw. She was employed by the Adams and Westlake Co. She was married to Elbert Pettit May 5, 1932. Surviving are the husband, five daughters, Mrs James Becker, Mrs Norma Kiefer, Mrs Merle Reese, Mrs Daniel Nine and Mrs Robert Newton, and two sons, Elbert J and Allen, all of Elkhart; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Arthur and Charles Mabie, both of Elkhart, and five sisters, Mrs Pearl Barker, Mrs Hazel Hawkins, Mrs Rosetta Morrison, and Mrs Bertha Atchinson, all of Elkhart, and Mrs Dora LeGras of Fort Wayne. Services will be held Friday in the First Landmark Missionary Baptist Church Rev Tom C Hansen, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Prairie St Cemetery.
Mrs Pettit was a member of the church, the Elkhart Writers Club and the Adlake UAW-CIO union.

- Elkhart – Allen R Pettit, 39, of 57645 Paul, was found dead Saturday afternoon in a car in a garage at Pettit's Used Car Parts, a business he owned across the street from his home. Elkhart County Coroner Marvin D Riegsevker ruled the death an apparent suicide and said Pettit died as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Pettit was born on Nov 5, 1937, in Elkhart, where he lived his lifetime. On Feb 20, 1961, at Elkhart, he married Frances Branham, who survives with a daughter Lisa at home; his father Elbert Pettit of Elkhart; four sisters, Mrs Norma Kifer, Mrs James Becker and Mrs Van Nine, all of Elkhart, and Mrs John Moore of Millersburg, Ky, and a brother Elbert of Elkhart.
Services will be Tuesday at the Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home, with Rev William Mathis, pastor of the West Side Missionary Baptist Church of South Bend, officiating. Burial will be in the Prairie Street Cemetery. Pettit was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post of Osceola, and the Tri-State Auto Racing Association.

- Elkhart - Services for Elbert Pettit, 80, of 57602 Woodrow St, who died Wednesday in Medco Center after an extended illness, will be Saturday in the White Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Prairie Street Cemetery.
He was born Jan 24, 1902 in Salt Lick, Ky, and was an Elkhart area resident for many years. On May 5, 1932 in Elkhart, he married Gladys Mabie, who died Sept 17, 1968. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs James (Thelma) Becker of Vero Beach, Fla, Mrs Norma Kiefer, Mrs Merle (Betty Lou)Reese, Mrs Daniel (Lillian) Nine, all of Elkhart, and Mrs Carolyn Moore, of Paris, Ky; a son Elbert J Pettit of Rossville, Ga; eighteen grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs Olin Swickert and Mrs Lawrence Williams, both of California, and Mrs Roy Hawkins of Elkhart; two brothers, Benjamin Pettit and Homer Pettit, both of Elkhart. A son preceded him in death. He was a retired masonry worker.
