  	James M. DeGroff, 71, of 167 Caroline, a pioneer employee of the New York Telephone Co., died yesterday at 5:15 p.m. at the Durham Nursing Home. He retired several years ago. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Fred Clark, Saratoga Springs, a niece and a nephew. The funeral will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Kark and Tunison Funeral Home. The Rev. Lewis M. Brehaut, pastor of the First Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Whitford Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9.
