Graveside funeral services will be held Friday, June 8 at 10 AM at Woodville Public Cemetery for Elder John L. VanDenburgh, 88 of Terra Bella, who passed away June 1. Pastor Donnie Ramey will officiate and interment will follow. A Celebration of Life service will be held on June 17, Father's Day, at Bible Explorations Church in Terra Bella.
John was born May 18, 1930 in Hollywood California to Earl and Mildred VanDenburgh and was raised and attended schools there, graduating from Hollywood High School. He married Clara Rosalee McDonald March 30, 1950 at Chapel Of The Roses in Pasadena and the VanDenburgh family settled for some time in the Los Angeles area. In the early 1960's, John decided to return to school to become a dentist. As an Adventist, he attended La Sierra University and Loma Linda University and graduated in 1967 with his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. John moved his family to Colorado and opened his practice in Durango and worked as a dentist until he felt called to the ministry. John retired from dentistry and went into the ministry full time. He came to the Tulare County area in 1985 and the family settled in Terra Bella where John continued in the ministry. Both as a Pastor of Bible Explorations Church and as an evangelist, traveling and spreading God's Word.
John enjoyed making things in his shop, being on the tractor and of course, traveling with his beloved Clara on their motorcycle. He was a student for life and enjoyed studying the Bible.
He was preceded in death by his sister Pat and Annette. He is survived by his wife Clara VanDenburgh of Terra Bella; daughters Joyce M. Thompson and husband Bob of Colorado Springs, CO and Sandra L. Clark of Terra Bella; his son Steven L. VanDenburgh and wife Lynette of Napa; sister Letha Faye Stephen of Banning as well as 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
