- A brief mention was made in these columns last week of the death of a well known and most beloved woman of Westfield, Mrs. B. Lilly, who passed away on Tuesday morning, Jan. 30, 1940,after an extended sickness, at the age of 69 years, 4 months and 10 days.
Mrs. Carrie Marchant Lilly was born at Rockford, Ill., Sept. 20, 1870, coming to Plymouth county at the age of six years. On November 7, 1892, she was united in marriage with Hardy B. Lilly, at Le mars. Seven children were born to this union.
She leaves to mourn her loss a devoted husband and the following children: Mrs. Jennie Tower of Menlo Park, Calif.; Mrs. Ferne Boyd and Carol Lilly, of Westfield; also a sister, Mrs. Alice Fruechnicht, of St. Joseph, Mo., 11 grandchildren, besides a host of other relatives and friends who will greatly miss her truly genuine and sympathetic personality.
Mrs. Lilly's happiness was complete when surrounded by her children and grandchildren in her home. She was a charter member of the Congregational church, the ladies aid, and the Tuesday club and was keenly interested in all serving them most faithful until continued sickness prevented her from doing so.
A life so lived will be a sweet memory to all who were fortunate enough to have known this esteemed woman. To those who are left to mourn her loss we extend sincerest sympathy.
Brief funeral services were held Thursday afternoon in the home and the body taken to the Congregational church where Rev. Joseph Steele, pastor emeritus of Mayflower church in Sioux City,officiated. During the service Mrs. Ward Knapp sang two hymns with Mrs. Keith Knapp accompanist. Interment was made in the Akron cemetery.
The pallbearers were Wallace Lilly, Wayne Lilly, Clark, and Vernon Lilly, Christy Moffatt and Albert Harrington.

- AGED PIONEER OF COUNTY DIES AT WESTFIELD JULY 9
H. B. Lilly, a well-known pioneer resident of Plymouth county, passed away at his home in Westfield, Iowa, Saturday morning, July 9, 1949, at the age of 83 years, 8 months and 21 days.
Hardy Bardwell Lilly was born in Waterloo, Iowa, October 18, 1865. He came to Plymouth county at the age of five, and located in the Westfield community in 1884. On November 7, 1892, he was united in marriage with Carrie E. Marchant at Le Mars, Iowa. They made their home in the Westfield community, except for a brief time spent in Texas. To this union seven children were born.
Mr. Lilly leaves to mourn his departure the following children: Mrs. Jennie Tower, of Redwood City, Cal.; Mrs. Ferne Boyd,of Ronan, Mont.; David and Bardwell Lilly, of Westfield; Mrs. Carol Boyd, of Twodot, Mont., and Mrs. Doris Schulz, of Elk Point, S. D.; also a brother, O. B. Lilly, of Westfield; 11 grand-children and three great-grandchildren, besides a host of other relatives and friends, who will greatly miss him.
His wife and one daughter preceded him in death.
In his early years Mr. Lilly taught school in Plymouth county, and later, after moving to Westfield, served as mayor for several terms. He was a loyal supporter of the Congre-gational church and interested in its welfare. He was a kind, loving father and an esteemed member of the community.
The funeral service was held at the Westfield Congregational church at 2:00 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Joseph Steele, of Sioux City. Mr. Dorcas Bull sang two numbers, accompanied by her mother, Mrs. Keith Knapp.
The pallbearers were Christy Moffatt, Albert Harrington, Wallace Lilly, Clark Lilly, Wayne Lilly, and Frank Welch. Interment was in Riverside cemetery at Akron.
