- NELLIE D. (MCDUFF) HUMPHREY WASHBURN — Nellie D. Humphrey, 88, went to be with the Lord, Jan. 8, 2004, at a Presque Isle Hospital.
She was born March 20, 1915, in Ashland, one of eight daughters of Frank and Nellie (Tarbox) McDuff. After the death of her husband at an early age, she went to work at Libby's IGA and later to Taterstate Frozen Foods and McCains in Washburn. She was an active member of the Washburn Pentecostal Church for the past 30 years, attending the Ladies Prayer Group and the WHMC. Once a month she attended the Joy Fellowship hosted by the Monticello church. Mrs. Humphrey was known as the 'official coffee maker' for most of the social functions at the church. She was an avid Washburn Beaver fan attending all their basketball games, and enjoyed knitting and giving away, mittens and dish cloths and even having a good game of Skip-Bo.
Surviving her are three sons, Raymond A. Humphrey and his wife, Ardis, Wayne T. Humphrey and his wife, Joyce, Wendell C. Humphrey and his wife, Christine, all of Washburn; two daughters, Eloise M. Jones of Corinna, and Penny L. Richardson of Washburn; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elsie Clayton and Margaret Campbell, both of Washburn; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond Humphrey; two daughters, Marolyn Vashon and Maureen Rogers; a grandson, Robert Jones; a great-grandson, Brad Davis; a son-in-law, Sheldon Richardson five sisters, Mary Marr, Wilda Spooner and Irene Spooner, Violet McIntosh and Frances Beaulier.
Relatives and friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Washburn Pentecostal Church, with the Rev. Bruce Blakney officiating. Spring interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Washburn.
