Obituary |
- He ended his life as he as he lived - he always wanted to go with his boots on. He had been breaking horses at the Peter Hecker Ranch in Ennis. He was riding a horse he considered to be sufficient broke to be ridden with a regular saddle. When he climbed on, the horse reared and fell over backwards on top of him. The saddle horn caused severe internal injuries and he died on a small plane rushing him to a hospital in Bozeman"
Doctor Loosee wrote in his book, "I lost my first patient the night I returned from taking my exam. Parham Hacker's horse rolled on Erick Maybee. He was thirty-five years old, and the weight of the upside down horse forced the pommel of the saddle into his liver. He was dying in one of Otis Crooker's cabins, with a systolic blood pressure of forty when I returned from Helena that night. I remember frantically hand cranking my grandfather's old centrifuge to seperate blood cels to cross-match and transfuse. We got him as far as the rickety old elevator in Bozeman Deaconess Hospital where he died on the way to the operating room."
