- Iowa City, Iowa – Prof. E. C. Mabie, 63, head of the department of speech and dramatic arts at the University of Iowa, died of a heart attack at his home here Thursday night.
Prof. Mabie was recognized as one of the foremost contributors to the community theater movement in the United States and a leader in educational theater work.
He was born Oct 27, 1892 at La Cross, Wis. And received most of his formal education at Dartmouth University. Prof. Mabie is survived by his widow and one daughter.

- Mrs Grace Mabie, 82, the widow of a former University of Iowa department head, died Tuesday at Brandenton, Fla., where she lived in recent years.
Funeral services will be held Monday at the Trinity Episcopal Church with burial in Oakland Cemetery. Ftriends may call at the Becknan-Butherus Funeral home after 7 P.M. Saturday..
Mrs. Mabie was born Jan. 13, 1891 at Derry, N.H., the daughter of Edward and Annabelle Cummings Chase.
She was the widow of Prof. Edward Charles Mabie, former head of speech and Dramatic Arts at UI.
She was a charter member of the Iowa City Woman's Club and a member of Gamma Chapter of Zeta Phi Eta, the EKWAL Club and the Congregational Church.
She moved to Florida in 1966
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs Thomas (Pam) Sterwart, of Bradenton, Fla.; and a sister, Mrs Ira Moore, of Derry, N.H.
