- Roberta McKenney Taylor, 94, Lemont, Illinois and formerly of 25 Park Street, Canton, died on Feb. 19, 2007 at the Lemont Nursing Home, Illinois. The funeral will be Feb. 24, 2007 at 10:30 am, at the Lawrence Funeral Home in Canton.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Canton. Calling hours will be Friday, from 4 to 7 at the Lawrence Funeral Home. If friends so desire, contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Park Place, Canton, 13617. She is survived by a son James C. Taylor and wife Jean of Tinley Park, Illinois; a daughter, Martha Taylor Toth and her husband Charles of Luling, LA; and a sister, Jean Barlow of Canton; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four nieces and five nephews. Mrs. Taylor was predeceased by two brothers, J. Manley McKenney and J. Richard McKenney. Born April 17, 1912 in Watertown, NY, a daughter of Winfred and Mildred Maybee McKenney, she was a graduate of Canton High School. In July 1929, she married Herman Rule "Squint" Taylor. Mr. Taylor died March 7, 1982. Upon graduation Mrs. Taylor worked doing office work at J.H. Maybee & Son, a coal and lumber business, in Canton. She later worked for Canton Central School as a secretary for 31 years from June 1943 until her retirement in 1974, where she served as secretary to Hugh C. Williams, the District Superintendent. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church Study Club, the Postscript Club of the church and Daughters of the Nile. She was also an active member of the Historical Club, St. Lawrence Golf and Country Club and a life member of the St. Lawrence County Association of Educational Secretaries and a member of the State Association of Secretaries. Mrs. Taylor also enjoyed playing Bridge and she loved to read.
