- Elaine M. Weekes, 84, of 236 Judson Street Road, Canton. died Thursday, July 9, 2009 at Canton Potsdam Hospital. She was the wife of the late Ronald Weekes, who died January 27, 2004.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, July 13, 2009 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Church in Canton. Burial will be in the New Boston Cemetery, Barnes Corners, NY. Arrangements entrusted to the Lawrence Funeral Home, Canton.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley, 6805 US Hwy 11, Potsdam, NY 13676 and/or to Canton Fire & Rescue, Riverside Drive, Canton, NY 13617.
Surviving are three sons, Marshall of Canton, John and wife Phyllis of Geneva and George and his companion Terri of Maine; five grandchildren, Jennifer Kimble, Karen Moore and Jeffrey, Julia and Brandon Weekes; 12 great-grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her two sons, Joseph and Fredrick and a sister, Theresa Bush.
Born February 26, 1925 in the Town of Pamelia, a daughter of Wilbur and Julia (O'Conner) LaJoy, she graduated St. Augustine Academy in Carthage.
On July 24, 1943, she married Ronald W. Weekes at the St. James Church in Carthage.
Mrs. Weekes worked for the Office of the Aging; she was a telephone operator in Potsdam for NY Telephone Co. and was a clerk at the A&P in Canton.
In addition to her grandchildren, she enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, hunting and playing BINGO.
