  	Ephraim was a charter member of Franck Lodge in 1860 and many times over the course of his Masonic career, he served in the position of Outer Guard at meetings. Ephraim was a feisty character and got himself into some trouble. In mid-1871 Ephraim and another member came to blows during Lodge, resulting in their suspension for two years, but the story didn't end there. In August they were both reinstated, because of a lack of proper notification. In September they were both suspended again, with the added details that during the altercation coats were taken off so they could really have a go at it, vulgar language was involved, (whatever constituted vulgar language in 1871), and both were quite intoxicated. Ephraim, however, was reinstated a mere six months later. A final note regarding Ephraim is found in the Minutes for Oct 19, 1874 where it was revealed that the Lodge had paid for Ephraim's coffin and hearse. Perhaps it was done out of respect for him and his otherwise long service to the Lodge, but it could have been an indication of want.
