Anecdote |
- Solomon is believed to have been the largest of the family, being six feet, eight inches tall, weighing over 300 pounds and built in proportion. He was very religious and endeavored to keep his brothers out of trouble. A story is told of a man from the US who called himself Frank Gotch and claiming the wrestling championship of the world, heard of Sol Maybee, a man able to shoulder and walk with a standard saw log of 12' x 24", thought that he would like to meet Sol. After obtaining directions, Gotch located Sol ploughing in one of his fields which was enclosed by snake-rail fences. Gotch attempted to talk Sol into a friendly jostle but Sol only laughed and continued with his work while Gotch followed back and forth. Eventually Sol became sufficiently annoyed to threaten to put Gotch's head under the fence if he didn't go on his way. Apparently Gotch failed to heed the warning and ended with his head under the fence with his friends attempting to get him loose. The story does not relate just how this was accomplished.
