Gloria L. Mabie, 93, of Atlanta, Michigan, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by family, on Monday, January 29, 2024. Gloria was born in Hillman, Michigan on June 14, 1930 to Waldo and Helen Whitehead. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Mabie, who passed away in 1975.
Gloria was a graduate of Atlanta High School and Montmorency County Normal. She taught in a one room schoolhouse in Loud Township. In later years, she worked as a dental receptionist, built homes with her husband, and worked at the Montmorency County Tribune.
Gloria was a beloved friend and respected native of Atlanta. She was a resource on the town’s history and loved sharing it with others. She attended the Atlanta Congregational United Church of Christ. She loved to read, do puzzles, go on walks with her friends, and volunteer at her church. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed sharing family history and photos.
Gloria is survived by her children, Marty (Helen) Mabie and Merry McClary; grandchildren, Kristi McClary (Jim Miller), Nancy (Craig) Gates, and Lauren Mabie (Abel Keranen); and two great grandchildren, Lacey and Carson Gates. She is preceded in death by her parents, Waldo and Helen Whitehead; husband, Glenn Mabie; and brother, Gary Whitehead.
The family will hold a burial and celebration of life at a later determined date.
