- Harland A. "Archie" Maybee, 67, of La Crosse, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at his home after a year-long battle with cancer. Archie was secure in his love for, and faith in, his loving heavenly Father. He was born June 22, 1934, to Archie and Ethel Maybee in Soldiers Grove, Wis. He attended both grade school and high school in "the Grove." In 1953, he married Carolyn Johnson. They had a daughter, Julie, and they later divorced. He married Levon Erdman on Oct. 22, 1977, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa.
He worked for the Trane Company for 41 years and retired on Oct. 1, 1994. He was a member of the Trane 25-Year Club and Trane Lodge Local 21.
Arch loved all sports including softball; was a member of the 700 Bowling Club; loved euchre, hunting and fishing; and was a big fan of the Green Bay Pack ers.
He is survived by his wife, Levon; his daughter, Julie Maybee and her friend, Hunter; stepchildren, David (Leanne) Erdman and Kimberly (Brad) Littlejohn; three stepgrandchildren, Eric (Wendy) Erdman, Daniel Erdman and friend Deanna and Jennifer Littlejohn; and two great-grandchildren, Erica and Justin Erdman. He loved each and every one of them. He is further survived by his mother, Ethel Maybee of Soldiers Grove; brothers, Cecil (Harriet) Maybee of Macheseny Park, Ill., and Terry (Gloria) Maybee of Janesville, Wis.; sisters, Irene (Gordon) Dull and Fern (Jim) Connley, both of Soldiers Grove and Janice (Erland) Dregne, of Viroqua, Wis.; and many special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, an infant son and two infant brothers.
Harland became a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in 1978. He enjoyed the church, all his wonderful friends and the pastor. He looked forward to the friendly hugs when he came to church. A special thanks to Gundersen Lutheran Hospice, all of his dear friends who came to see him and for all of the cards and phone calls.
Archie was a wonderful husband, dad and grandpa. He will be missed very, very much.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church. The Reverend Judd Larson will officiate. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, Blair, Wis. Friends may call at the Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 809 Gillette Street, La Crosse, today from 5 to 7 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10a.m. until the service.
