- Vera Jane Maybee, 85, lifelong resident of Herington, died Saturday, March 5, 2011, at the Herington Municipal Hospital.
She was born on March 16, 1925, at Herington, the daughter of Omar D. and Gladys P. (Solomon) Johnson.
Mrs. Maybee was a homemaker, and retired as a cook at the Herington Municipal Hospital.
She married Darrell E. Maybee on Sept. 22, 1946, at Junction City. He preceded her in death on July 14, 2009.
She is survived by three daughters, Mary Jane Laudemann of White City, Carol Langhofer of Herington, Betty Martin of Council Grove; a son, Mark Maybee of Woodbine; four sisters, Patty Shahan of Herington, Lola Miller of Detroit, Alma Baldwin of Spring Hill, and Karen Milham of Phoenix, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Maybee; four brothers, William Johnson, Chester Johnson, Keith Johnson, and Dee Johnson; and a sister, Mary Dalton.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 10, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Latimer, with the Rev. Charles Scott officiating. Inurnment will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery

- Ronald E. Maybee, 60, Wichita, died Sunday, April 1, 2007. Mr. Maybee was born March 22, 1947, in Herington. He worked for Midwest Drywall Company in Wichita.
Survivors include his wife, Carol A., of the home; a daughter, Justis Askren of Wichita; two sons, Erik of Wichita and Quivan of Brooklyn, N.Y.; his parents, Darrell and Jayne Maybee, of Herington; a brother, Mark of Herington; three sisters, Mary Jane Laudemann of White City, Carol Langhofer of Herington and Betty Martin of Council Grove; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 404 S. Broadway, Herington 67449, with military honors conducted by Fort Riley.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ronald Maybee Memorial, in care of the funeral home.
