As secretary to the director of communications for GDA at F.E. Warren Air Force Base, she coordinated with military staff, which led her to be the first woman on an Atlas missile site. Moves during her life took her to New Mexico, California, Colorado, Washington and Utah. Following her retirement, she returned to Cheyenne to care for her mother. Mrs. Mabie enjoyed Wyoming football and its wind and prairies, NASCAR, working in the yard, rocks, oil painting, bird watching, needlework, camping, fishing, and hunting, a cup of coffee, visiting with others, watching the day rise and set, history and music. She was a member of the Audubon Society, National Secretaries Association, PTO, Job's Daughters, PEO, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a direct descendent of Mayflower passenger Stephen Hopkins. Mrs. Mabie is survived by her children, the Rev. Dr. Ronald Watters, Linda Stanley and Raymond Watters; stepchildren, Jerry Mabie, Patricia Snook and Thomas Mabie (deceased); seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Carol Moench; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. today at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of Chimes. Internment will be at a later date.2 |

She married Raymond Clayton Watters in 1951 and Donald Eugene Mabie in 1968. She lived in Clearfield from 1968-76, Roy from 1981-97, and West Point and Syracuse for the last year. A 1950 graduate from Central High School in Cheyenne, Wyoming, she excelled in secretarial classes and was recognized as the top skill student of her class. Professionally, she served in Wyoming in key secretarial positions with the State of Wyoming, NY Life Insurance, Frontier Refinery Company, General Dynamics/Astronautics (GDA), and in Utah with Western Mortgage/United Savings and Ogden First Federal and Utah Federal Savings and Loans. Her associations have been with the Audubon Society, National Secretaries Association, PTO, Job's Daughters, PEO, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Daughters of the American Revolution. She is a direct descendent of Mayflower passenger, Stephen Hopkins. Survived by children Rev. Dr. Ronald (Alice) Watters, Linda (Joseph) Stanley, and Raymond (Karen) Watters; step-children Jerry (Leslie) Mabie, Patricia Snook, and Thomas Mabie (deceased); grandchildren Jon (Kylie) Watters, Michelle (Aaron) Larsen, Stephanie Watters, Amber Ebersole, Ashley Stanley, Brydon Stanley, and Sophia Watters; great-grandchildren Anthony Ebersole and Cameron Sanders; sister Carol (Dave) Moench; and, brother-in-law Don Diller. Memorial service will be held Thursday, January 28, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. at the Clearfield Community Church, 200 S. 500 E. in Clearfield. Internment in Cheyenne, Wyoming at a later date. In memory of Alice remember to enjoy the simple things in life, give a big hug to someone daily, and pick up an artifact along your way. Cremation under the direction of Leavitt's Crematory.4 |
