- Mrs. George C. Foland of Cooperstown, well known here, died Tuesday morning at 8:50 in the Amsterdam City hospital after a lingering illness. She was taken sick in August.
Mrs. Foland was born in South Valley, Otsego County, a daughter of David A. Mabie and Catherine Hanson. She came of revolutionary stock, her grandfather of the fifth generation being born in Tribes Hill, the first white child to be born in the Mohawk Valley on the north side of the Mohawk River west of Schenectady.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Foland is survived by three sons, William Mabie Foland, Binghamton; Charles Seward Foland, Syracuse, and George David Foland, Cooperstown; one daughter, Catherine Hanson Foland, Cooperstown; two grandsons in Syracuse; two brothers, Seward and Hanson D. Mabie, Amsterdam; three sisters, Miss Nettie E. Mabie and Mrs. Vena Eckerson, Amsterdam, and Mrs, Robert J. Smith, Cooperstown; two nieces, Alethea and Marion Mabie, and a nephew, David H. Mabie, of Amsterdam.
The funeral will be held Saturday at the home, 60 Chestnut street, Cooperstown at 1 o'clock and the Christian church in South Valley at 2. Burial will be in South Valley Cemetery

- Mrs. Bertha E. Mabie, 77, of Upper Steadwell avenue, died yesterday morning at her home.
Born in Amsterdam on Aug. 13, 1881, she lived in the Amsterdam area her entire life. She was a member of the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church and attended the First Baptist Church. She was a member of Scattergood grange of Hagaman; Montgomery county Pomona, State and National granges; the Fort Johnson fire department auxiliary, and the Valley View home bureau.
Mrs. Mabie and her late husband were among the organizers of 4-H Club work in Montgomery county. Mrs. Mabie was presented a citation last year by the executive committee for her long years of work. She also was an honorary life member of the organization.
On Feb. 5, 1908, she married Hanson Mabie, former Town of Amsterdam supervisor, who died In 1957.
She is survived by one son, David Mabie, Canajoharie; two daughters, Mrs. Richard Vedder and Miss Marian Mabie, Amsterdam; six grandchildren, and several cousins.
Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the funeral house of Johnson-Lindsay with Rev. Derwood Smith officiating. Burial will be in Fair View cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral house from 7 to 9 p.m. today and tomorrow

- Bertha E. Neiholz, widow of Hanson D. Mabie, died Tuesday morning at her home on Upper Steadwell Ave.
A lifelong resident of Amsterdam, she was born in this city Aug. 13, 1881, a daughter of Henry and Katherine Reinhardt. Neiholz, and was married to Mr. Mabie Feb. 5, 1908. Mr. Mabie died Nov. 12, 1957.
Mrs. Mabie and her husband were among the organizers of 4-H Club work in Montgomery County and last 'year she was presented a citation for her many years of. service to the 4-H Clubs of the county. Also interested in grange work, she was a member of Scattergood Grange, 1514, of Hagaman, Montgomery County Pomona Grange and the state and national granges. She was a member of t h e Valley View Home Bureau and the Auxiliary of the
Fort Johnson Fire Dept.
Mrs. Mabie was a member of the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, but attended the First Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son, David H. Mabie, Canajoharie; two daughters. Mrs. Richard McVedder and Miss Maerian Mabie, Amsterdam, slx-grandchildren, Miss Renee Mabie and Karl Hanson Mabie, Canajoharie, Miss Shannon Vedder and Richard Lee Vedder, Amsterdam, Robert Johnson Mabie, Cobleskill, and David Wayne Mabie Ellenburg Depot; also several cousins

- Mrs. Leona E. Smith, 92, of 12 Susquehanna Avenue, widow of former County Treasurer Robert J. Smith, died October 30 at the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, following a long illness.
Mrs. Smith was born September 29, 1879 at South Valley, daughter of David and Catherine (Hanson) Mabie. She was married to Mr. Smith in 1900 at Roseboom. He died December 11, 1965.
She had lived in Cooperstown since 1930 and was a member of the United Methodist Church and its WSCS; the Ellen Littell Missionary Society; Otsego Chapter, OES; and the DAR.
She was a collector of antiques and for many years operated an antique shop in her home. She had been a resident of Woodside Hall for the past five years.
She is survived by three nieces, Miss Catherine H. Foland, Frederick, Md.; Mrs. Richard (Alethla) Vedder, Amsterdam, and Miss Marian Mabie, Amsterdam; four nephews, William M. Foland, Binghamton; Charles S. Foland, Syracuse; George D. Foland, Cooperstown, and - David A Mabie, Canajoharie.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Ingalis Connell and Dow Funeral Home here, with the Rev. Harold J. Saxton, pastor of Cooperstown United Methodist Church officiating, Burial was in South Valley Cemetery
