- Douglas R Mabey Man of integrity and unconditional love A noble man of integrity and unconditional love left peacefully from this existence surrounded by his large family that he loved beyond measure. Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother gently returned home to be united with his daughter, parents and other family members April 8, 2006. Doug was born May 26, 1922 with his twin brother in Salt Lake City, Utah to Harry E. Mabey and Laurette Rogerson. After attending Purdue University and Brigham Young University he graduated in 1950 from the University of Utah with an MBA and a degree in mechanical engineering. He served his country honorably during World War II as a Naval fighter pilot. After returning to Salt Lake City, he met while they were both attending BYU, and married his sweetheart and best friend Myra Madsen Mabey on June 20, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. He began his professional career as an engineer at Kennecott Utah Copper Division. Doug had a dynamic and successful 27 years of supervising complex engineering projects and became a senior executive with Kennecott. Instead of retiring, he built a successful real estate portfolio, along with extensive holdings in the telecommunications industry throughout the United States. Doug was passionate about the Boy Scouts of America. He designed and supervised the construction of the East Fork of the Bear Boy Scout Camp. He was awarded the Silver Beaver Award for his extensive service to the Boy Scouts. Doug has been a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints serving in many positions including high councils, bishoprics, high priest group leader and was dedicated to teaching gospel principles. His greatest loves were his family and traveling the world with them. He was preceded in death by his father and mother; sister, Lavon; brother, Leo; infant daughter, Maryanne; and grandson, Thomas Lund. He leaves behind his sweetheart, best friend and eternal companion, Myra (Peg); and his most cherished treasures his children, Steven Mabey, Susan Storheim, James (Taresa) Mabey, Mark (Wendy) Mabey, Dr. Brent (Mary) Mabey, Bruce (Christi) Mabey, Lisa (Robert) Burton and Robert (Lisa) Mabey. He is also survived by his twin brother, Don; and youngest brother, Grant. He leaves behind his precious 28 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 12, 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Olympus Sixth Ward Chapel at 4407 S. Fortuna (3695 E.). The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 11, 2006 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Drive, and at the ward from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. prior to the service. Graveside services will follow at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. Doug was a great friend and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather supporting all the families' needs and activities. He was a man of dignity, honor and quiet compassion. His passing leaves a monumental hole in our lives. We will remember him forever.
