Mabie read: A most horrible accident occurred near Chittenango, on the morning of the 25th inst, Ambrose Mabie, son of Albert Mabie, who resides about two miles southwest of the Village, had been engaged in laying out some work for a hired man, when a neighbor returned a hoe that he had borrowed.— Young Mabie took the hoe, and with the neighbor took a seat upon the fence enclosing the field. After awhile, young Mabie attempted to jump down from the fence, and in doing so in some unaccountable way fell upon the point of the hoe handle, which was in an upright position. It entered his body at a point on the inner side of the terminus of the spinal column and back of tho intestines, penetrating to a depth of fifteen inches and producing a fatal wound. He lingered in great suffering till two o'clock on Friday, when death relieved him. The deceased was about 23 years of age, and had prospects for the future which made life desirable. His untimely death will he sincerely mourned, not only by his relatives, but by a large circle of friends. Dr. Billington, of Chittonango was called early, and afforded the patient such relief as the case admitted, but the doctor's skill could not arrest the fatal result of such a terrible laceration of the body.11
oObit1 June 1871  On 1 June 1871 at Fayetteville, New York, the obituary of Ambrose S. Mabie read: Mr A. S. Mabee favored us with a call last Monday, and gave us the details of a sad and painful, also what proved a fatal accident, which occurred to his nephew, Ambrose Mabee, residing near Ohittenengo, on Thursday last. He had. a hoe in his hand, sitting on the fence, and in the act of jumping off, in slipping, or by some means, his weight came down upon the hoe handle, which was forced into his body in the region of his bowels. He died on Saturday from the effects of the injury.. He was the son of Mr. Albert Mabee and about twenty years old. He was a highly regarded young man, and leaves a large circle if friends.10
Burial* He was buried at Oakwood Cemetery, Chittenango, Madison County, New York.1

(Witness) oObit22 August 1890 Charlotte E Mabie was mentioned in the obituary of Maria Ehle on 22 August 1890 at Chittenango, Madison County, New York; On last Sunday afternoon, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charlotte Hall, the soul of Mrs. Maria Mabie passed peacefully away. Mrs. Mabie was a daughter of Mr. Henry Ehle, and was born in 1813. Of her farther's family, a sister, Mrs. Daniel Gates, and a brother, Mr. Andrew Ehle, are the only survivors. In 1833 she married Mr. Albert Mabie, whose death in 1873 was so widely and
deeply lamented.
The long years of her widowhood have been largely spent in retirement, and few people have of late enjoyed the acquaintance of one whose geniality and large benevolence of kind words and deeds have made her presence everywhere most welcome. The children of Mr. and Mrs. Mabie were four in number, two sons and two daughters. Of her family Mrs. Charlotte Hall survives, who with grandchildren and other relatives, will sadly miss her kindly face and long familiar voice. During her last illness Mrs. Mabie was unreserved in her expressions of religious trust, and her death was in the peacefulness and beauty of a clear faith in Jesus.
On Tuesday afternoon a large company of mourners and sympathetic friends attended the funeral services, conducted by Rev. Mr. Walker, at the Presbyterian Church, and followed her body to its resting place in Oakwood Cemetery
Thus from a large circle of loving relatives and friends, has gone out a life whose ever ready and helpful ministries had long been a blessing to our community. Death*16 February 1937 Lizzie C. Crouse died on 16 February 1937 at Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York, at age 82.17
oObit*17 February 1937  On 17 February 1937 at Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York, the obituary of Lizzie C. Crouse read: An outstanding woman leader for the last 50 years was lost to Syracuse when Mrs. Lizzie Crouse Maynard died at 10:45 o'clock Tuesday night of pneumonia at the age of 83 at the home of her son, M. Crouse Klock on the site of the old Crouse family residence at 1052 East Genesee street.
The illness which caused her death was the fourth attack of pneumonia she had suffered. She had been in a critical condition for several days before the end.
Mrs. Maynard was the daughter of the late Jacob Crouse, who, with his uncle, the late John Crouse, established a wholesale grocery business in Syracuse in 1858.
She was born at Chittenango on Feb. 20, 1854. Her father, who was born in Mindenville, Montgomery County, had started as a clerk in the store of his uncles, Daniel and John Crouse, at Canastota. Then, from 1847 to 1854 he had a store of his own at Manlius Center.
By the time he moved to Syracuse, with his four-year-old daughter, he was well on the road to wealth and the family at once took a position of social importance.
When Miss Lizzie Crouse reached the "coming out" age, she had this background and that, with her own personality, made her one of the belles of her youth in this city.
On May 14, 1879, she married Frank B. Klock, who died in 1892. Some time later she married Frank Hamilton Maynard, who died several years ago.
Mrs. Maynard retained her residence in the Crouse homestead in East Genesee Street and also had an apartment at 400 Park Avenue. She also traveled extensively.
But, whether in this country or abroad, she was a subscriber to Syracuse newspapers and from the time she was 14, kept up scrapbooks pertaining to the life and development of this city. It was said that these scrapbooks were the finest pertaining to Syracuse in existence.
She was also active in philanthropies of many kinds, being especially interested in the development of Syracuse Memorial Hospital. For years she served on the hospital board and in the Harmony Circle of the hospital.
The last three years of her life were spent in this city.
Surviving relatives, besides her son, Mr. Klock, include:

(Witness) oObit28 November 1902 Florence Nightengale Mabie was mentioned in the obituary of Emily Gertrude Mabie on 28 November 1902 at Chittenango, New York; Mrs. Emily Mabie Avery, daughter of Ambrose S. and Sarah A. Mabie, found rest at the homestead the 12th of November, 1902, after suffering a stroke of apoplexy. Her birth was chronicled November 26, 1856, at Mycenae, N. Y.
The devoted love of parents and sisters made her childhood a very happy one. The days came and went and she sought higher education, becoming a graduate of Houghton Seminary of Clinton, N.
Y. Not many months after, she was united in marriage to Allen H. Avery, Jr., of Manlius, N. Y , who survives her.
The crowning quality of Mrs. Avery's character, was her unselfishness. She lived to make glad the hearts of others. She had a brave, cheery way with her, and there was no one who came within the charmed circle of her acquaintance but who was made better. Her gentle ministry to the sick and suffering will not soon be forgotten. She loved her friends with an undying love, and her memory will be cherished in grateful hearts.
The last sad services were held at the home November 15th at two p. m., conducted by Rev. J. Mac L. Richardson of the Presbyterian church. He spoke tenderly of the departed and voiced the thought of every one present, while with warm, sympathetic words he commended the sorrowing ones to the dear Father in Heaven. Then were our hearts lifted on the waves of song to the "Holy City," and to the blessed companionship of the redeemed. The offering of many flowers showed the love and esteem in which the dear one was held. We bore her away to the quiet resting place—the Oakwood of Chittenango—and we hushed our sorrow while the Master's own words were given : "Let not your heart be troubled, in my Father's house are many mansions, I go to prepare a place for you." What could have been more comforting ?
Mrs. Avery leaves, besides a father and mother, three sisters : Miss Anna Mabie, Mrs. S. E Avery of Syracuse, and Mrs. Cyrus L. Tremper of Brooklyn. The sympathy of a large circle of friends is extended to the family, around whom the shadows have so closely gathered.10

(Witness) oObit28 November 1902 Anna Elizabeth Mabie was mentioned in the obituary of Emily Gertrude Mabie on 28 November 1902 at Chittenango, New York; Mrs.
The sympathy of a large circle of friends is extended to the family, around whom the shadows have so closely gathered.11
