Seaman, 82, of Port St. Lucie died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 1996, in Columbia Medical Center-Port St. Lucie. A native of Pompton Plains, N.J., he lived in Port St. Lucie for seven years. He moved here from Brick, N.J. Before retirement, he was a construction supervisor for U.S. Homes Corp., Freehold, N.J., for 14 years. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, Jensen Beach. He was a member of Pacquenac Tennis Club and the Police Athletic League Football Club, both in Pompton Plains. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Margaret Seaman of Port St. Lucie; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Jacqueline Seaman of Lakewood, N.J., and Donald and Diana Seaman of Seaside Park, N.J; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Charles Bosco of Jensen Beach; a brother, Richard H. Seaman of Ormond Beach, Fla; a sister, L. Miriam Decker of Pequannock, N.J; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Aycock Funeral Home, Jensen Beach. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, at the Ormond Beach Chapel of Volusia Memorial Funeral Homes, 548 N. Nova Rd. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Interment will take place in Volusia Memorial Park with Military Honors. Dick's family dates back to the early settlers of our country. He was born on February 14, 1915 to the late Richard and Lillian Seaman in Pompton Plains, New Jersey. Dick graduated from Butler High School in Butler, New Jersey; received a Business Degree from Rutgers University and a Masters Degree in Economics from the University of Missouri. A Pilot, Dick learned to fly as a teenager and joined the Army Air Corp before World War II. He served in China Burma India Theater and in the Korean War. He retired as Colonel in the U.S. Air Force and Air Force Reserve. He last flew in a rented plane at age 88 to keep his license current. An Aviation Analyst, Dick retired from Federal Aviation Administration in Research and Development. He was executive pilot for Henry Luce and Time Life Magazine as well as executive pilot for Vincent Astor. He was a member of the Dutch Reformed Church and a member of many clubs and organizations over the years. Dick was a Life Member of the Auxillians of Memorial Hospital where he also volunteered for many years. He was also an amateur writer, sharing experiences and writing short stories about aviation. Dick was very active, walking 5 miles every day. He liked sports and played football, tennis and was a wrestler in his younger years. He also knew about cars and taught automobile maintenance classes at the Senior Center in Ormond Beach. Dick leaves his loving wife of 67 years, Catherine Fraser MacMillan Seaman; daughters, Joan Evans of Palm Coast and Barbara Seaman of Ormond Beach; grandson, Joel Evans of Miami; sister in law, Margaret Seaman of Jensen Beach; nephews, Robert Fenwick and his wife, Lori of Edgewater and George Miserendino of Apple Valley, Minnesota; and many other nieces, nephews and cousins. Gone before him were his brother, Robert and sisters, Frances and Miriam. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.MeM.com.
