Mr Quackenbush was born at Bellvale on March 20, 1874, the son of George Quackenbush and Elizabeth Gay. He married Ella Mabee who died a number of years ago. In 1940 he married Jennie Tucker, who survives him. His survivors also include his three children by the former marriage; Alein, wife of William Holman of Greenwood Lake, and Seely and Harold of Suffern; a brother Jesse Quackenbush of Bellvale, and three grandchildren, Seely 3rd, Richard, and Betty Quackenbush. Rev Mr Quackenbush will be greatly missed by his wide circle of friends and his congregation. He had been a man of two professions and one trade. He was a preacher, violinist, and a blacksmith for many years. For several years he conducted services in two churches on Sunday as well as having a Sunday School in each church and conducting three prayer meeting a week. For many years on week days he worked as an Itinerant blacksmith, going from farm to farm carrying his violin with him and always ready to give a sacred concert at noon time. As he worked he talked, leaving a message of faith at every farm bouse. "A man can preach a lot or sermons around an anvil," he explained between hammer blows. He once said, "There are many ways of serving God, music, shoeing horses and prayer They are all the same if they are done in the same spirit." He was a member of the New Jersey Baptist Association and had been a pastor of Greenwood Church for 32 years. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev McIntosh and Rev George Vinson at the home at 48 West street at 2 p.m. Thursday.Interment will be in Warwick Cemetery.5 |

Rev Mr Quackenbush will be greatly missed by his wide circle of friends and his congregation. He had been a man of two professions and one trade. He was a preacher, violinist, and a blacksmith for many years. For several years he conducted services in two churches on Sunday as well as having a Sunday School in each church and conducting three prayer meeting a week. For many years on week days he worked as an Itinerant blacksmith, going from farm to farm carrying his violin with him and always ready to give a sacred concert at noon time. As he worked he talked, leaving a message of faith at every farm bouse. "A man can preach a lot or sermons around an anvil," he explained between hammer blows. He once said, "There are many ways of serving God, music, shoeing horses and prayer They are all the same if they are done in the same spirit." He was a member of the New Jersey Baptist Association and had been a pastor of Greenwood Church for 32 years. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev McIntosh and Rev George Vinson at the home at 48 West street at 2 p.m. Thursday.Interment will be in Warwick Cemetery.4 |
