"I think she went about doing her job and it evolved, things fell into place" her daughter, Jean Rhodes of Titusville said. "She really loved the city. She felt a lot of responsibility and pleasure from helping the people of Titusville." Mrs Cooper was a member of the Indian River City United Methodist Church in Titusville, the Titusville Pilot Club, Titusville Women's Club, Pythian Sisters Club of Titusville, the Silver Haired Legislature, and the Florida Association of City Clerks She was a member and first female president of the Florida Charter of Municipal Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. She was a charter member of the Florida Association of Assessing Officers, and was listed in the 1968 edition of Who's Who of American Women. After retiring in 1981, Mrs Cooper served on the Planning and Zoning Board of Titusville in 1985. She spent her retirement volunteering and painting. "She was a wonderful lady and good friend," Mrs Rhodes said. "Her friends would always describe her as a real lady. She was a quiet person bu still had that tough side to her when she needed it." Surviving are his wife, the former Beatrice McDonald of Hardyston; five daughters, Mary, Madeline and Anna, all of Paterson, and Myrtle and Miranda, both of Hardyston; six sons, William, Christopher, and Thomas, all of Hardyston, and Nicholas of Haledon, Henry of Paterson, and Anthony of Newton; two foster sons, John Hendly and William Duffy, both of Paterson; two sisters, Mary McKenzie of Miami, Fla, and Julie Redner of Haledon; a brother Edward Rielley of Stockholm; and 12 grandchildren. Arrangements are by Moore's Home for Funerals, Paterson.3 |
