(1842 - 2 blankets; 1843 1 blanket; 1848 5 portions of coal and 7 portions of beef; 1849 7 portions of beef). This was probably the John born in 1799, not his nephew, John, born in 1820 and married to Jane Honey. These were the only two John Smewings living in Radley during this period but only the uncle had seven mouths to feed in 1848 and 1849, matching the seven portions of beef.5
